華人爭議名導婁燁首部登上國際備受肯定之作《蘇州河》，當年以新銳之姿一舉拿下荷蘭鹿特丹影展「最佳影片老虎獎」、維也納國際影展「費比西影評人獎」、東京FILMeX影展「最佳影片」，甚至入選2000年《TIME 時代雜誌》年度10大電影，還一手捧紅周迅與賈宏聲成為知名演員。然而儘管有這般驚人好成績，當年卻未能在中國上映，因而被影迷推崇為藝文界的地下神片。今年邁進20週年，《蘇州河》首度迎來數位修復版本，由當年擔任本片製片人之一的《抓狂美術館》《小魔花》坎城金棕櫚製片菲利浦泊拜（Philippe Bober）親自操刀，將以全新調色、高畫質修復與細膩音效呈現，讓這部經典禁片重現天日。此外這次數位修復版本更獨厚台灣觀眾，將率先在台全球首映，如此難得的機會讓海外影迷羨慕不已！
菲利浦泊拜這次特別接受訪問，緬懷20年前與婁燁初識的經歷。他表示自己當時對中國第六代導演的興起非常感興趣，大量觀賞了許多這類華語電影，而其中最讓他印象深刻的就是婁燁的《周末情人》，其故事與畫面都充滿張力與驚豔能量，於是他決定主動聯繫尋求合作，而婁燁便大方邀請菲利浦參與他下一部電影的開發計畫。1998年菲利浦親訪上海，才得知婁燁手上正還有另一部電影《蘇州河》在後期製作面臨瓶頸，他非常好奇試看了開場一段，便深深被打動，立刻決定加入後期團隊，幫助婁燁找尋資金完成最後的補拍工作，並找來了歐洲剪接師與配樂師加盟催生。而《蘇州河》這部最終帶有歐陸色彩的經典就是在這樣的背景下誕生，走出了與當時第六代導演們完全不同的風格。
談到這次修復工程的緣由，菲利浦泊拜大讚《蘇州河》是如此「經得起時間考驗且毫不遜色，超經典的傑出絕讚之作」，與任何經典片一樣值得被修復重映，讓更多觀眾重新認識它的美好，選在今年20週年紀念重映更是意義非凡。《蘇州河》當年以16釐米底片拍攝，後期製作則在德國完成，而所有素材所幸至今都在柏林得到完好保存。然而修復過程中遇到最困難的挑戰則是調色的部分。由於年代久遠，雖然底片沒有毀損，但部分素材的色彩卻稍有變質，有失準確度，必須仰賴團隊優秀調光師，從舊有檔案一一對照，調整出最接近當年原始電影的水準，重現《蘇州河》畫面上的神秘迷人風采。
《蘇州河》故事以上海為背景，講述男主角馬達與愛人牡丹的戀情，因一場預謀綁架案生變，馬達與黑道勾當出賣牡丹，並向其父親勒索，而牡丹一氣之下跳進蘇州河，放話將變成一條美人魚回來找他。馬達出獄後，果真在酒吧遇見一位與牡丹一模一樣且扮裝成人魚的女郎美美。然而美美表示毫不知情，但漸漸仰慕起他們的愛情故事，馬達則陷入似曾相識的心理交戰，並到處奔走決心要找回牡丹…。「《蘇州河》20週年經典修復」將於8月28日於全台戲院上映，詳細資訊請上前景官網www.ffe.com.tw或粉絲專頁www.facebook.com/ffe.tw查詢。
