何黎艷出身越南岱依族，是一名長期關注鄉土、民族文化、性別議題的紀錄片導演。自幼陶冶於閱讀中，大學攻讀新聞學，期望能挖掘世界各地更多的故事。起初進入電視台工作，後來轉向拍攝獨立紀錄片。
獨立拍片初始，缺乏資金的何黎艷以不到 88 美金的成本製作她的首部作品《The Way to School》，她為拍攝深入家鄉山野，忠實記錄下一名罹患愛滋病的女人獨自扶養兒子的故事，最終該片獲得 2013 年越南電影協會短片類銀風箏獎。
作為紀錄片導演，何黎艷經常在操持攝影機的同時與被攝者成為好友。如在首部長片《迷霧中的孩子》長達四年的拍攝裡，導演跨越語言、族群和年齡隔閡與女主角 Di 發展出情同姊妹的友誼關係，以她細膩而多感的鏡頭和心，陪伴Di 成長，也記錄了新時代與舊習俗的衝突之下，這名赫蒙族女孩的成長悲歌。
《迷霧中的孩子》入選國際各大影展並獲獎無數，奪下具指標性的荷蘭阿姆斯特丹紀錄片電影節最佳導演、瑞士真實紀錄片影展改變認知項目大獎，及以色列特拉維夫國際紀錄片影展最佳國際影片等近 20 座獎項，也入選 2022 年台灣國際紀錄片影展 – 亞洲視野競賽單元。本片以其精準的人物刻劃和真摯的鏡頭語言獲得影評人一致盛讚。
